As any sufferer can tell you, migraines are far more than a headache. This condition affects 1 out of every 7 people—an estimated 148 million people worldwide. If you’ve been living with the types of headaches that disrupt your ability to go to work, take care of your kids, and just enjoy life, chiropractic care may be the answer you’re looking for. At Oviedo Chiropractic, our staff of chiropractors and medical massage therapists are well versed in treatments to reduce pain, prevent migraine frequency, and improve your overall quality of life!
While head pain is a classic symptom of migraines, the condition is very different from the pain of your average tension headache. Migraine pain is often described as throbbing or pulsing and typically occurs on one side of the head. You may also experience vomiting, dizziness, and sensitivity to light, sound, or odors. Depending on the type of migraine, you may also experience vision changes, weakness or paralysis, ringing in the ears, balance problems, or even fainting. Unlike a typical headache that comes and goes within a few hours, migraines come in stages. A day or two before your migraine, many people experience certain symptoms. If you have migraines often enough, you may even be able to expect them based on your symptoms. Mood swings, neck stiffness, and constipation are common in the prodrome phase. Auras are another thing that distinguish migraines from other types of headaches, although migraines can occur without auras as well. These often include vision disturbances (such as seeing flashing lights), tingling or numbness in the limbs, or difficulty speaking. The aura phase typically lasts between 10-30 minutes. This phase is what most people refer to as a “migraine.” During a migraine attack, you will feel throbbing pain on one side of the head. Migraine attacks can last anywhere from a couple of hours to a couple of days. The final phase of a migraine is often referred to as “migraine hangover”—and for good reason. Patients commonly report feeling tired, confused, and unable to concentrate, however you may experience feelings of extreme happiness. Migraine treatment is rarely as simple as taking a pain reliever and getting back to your day. Instead, it may be necessary to make changes to your lifestyle to prevent migraines, relieve symptoms during an attack, and help you recover during postdrome. Most importantly, be consistent in your lifestyle. Migraine experts seem to agree that “migraines hate change.” Following a regular schedule can help keep migraines at bay. If you’ve tried traditional treatments for migraine—without relief—it may be time to give chiropractic treatment a try. Regular spinal manipulation can relieve pressure on the nerves that send pain signals to the brain. Chiropractic care can also relieve neck pain and stiffness associated with migraines. In fact, studies have shown that chiropractic care may be as effective as prescription medications at reducing the frequency of headaches but without the uncomfortable side effects. Many chiropractic offices also offer soft tissue therapies, such as massage and trigger point therapy, to reduce muscle tension and help relieve symptoms.
We pride ourselves on our great reviews. Here’s what some Oviedo, Winter Springs, and East Orlando residents have said…
Dr.Cough was exceptional. He took the time to listen to my concerns, conducted a comprehensive evaluation, and explained the treatment plan in a way that was easy to understand. The adjustments were gentle yet effective, and I left feeling significantly better than when I arrived. Birma Birma
I met Dr. Cough on a Saturday morning while visiting the theme parks in Orlando. I couldn’t find a doctor in the Sarasota area that would address my slipping ribs issue, and I immediately knew that I was in the right place. Dr. Cough explained the treatment process to me thoroughly, and his techniques work wonders on my sore ribs. I would highly recommend Dr. Cough and his knowledgeable staff to anyone looking for chiropractic care! Rick
